While surfing the net to put my web page together, I found an interesting address by BISHOP DONALD W. WUERL titled, “Faith, Personal Conviction and Political Life”.
I found myself agreeing with most of what he had to say about the impact of faith on one’s political life. I think there must be a higher moral law that guides us in our political actions. I also believe that to take life is wrong. Where we seem to disagree is that he is certain (based on his religious doctrine) that life begins at conception, and I am not sure when life begins. I don’t like the idea of abortion, but I also don’t believe in the government making personal decisions for women when it comes to pregnancy. It seems unfortunate to me that we spend so much time and energy debating the right to life vs. the right to choice that we are not working together to solve the problems that lead to abortion . I wonder how many abortions we could prevent and how many lives we could improve if we quit debating this issue and worked together to fix the underlying problems that we can all agree need to be addressed.
